Photography lighting kits are kits that you can buy to light up a photographic studio or scene.
A lot of times, you will have a particular subject in a scene that may or may not have adequate lighting, and being
a professional (or budding professional!) photographer, you have to be ready for any kind of lighting emergency,
right?
Well, there are a lot of reasons as to why you would want to purchase your photography lighting
gear in a kit, and here are some of the main ones.
For one, it will cost you less in a kit than it would individually.
Second, a kit comes with basically everything you need to get started, especially if you buy a kit that
is especially designed to get you off the ground running.
And three, you can get kits at a price range that even you can afford! Some are not very expensive at
all, and you will find that it is easier to afford this gear than you ever thought!
So, those are some reasons as to why a photography light kit would help YOU as a
photographer, but what kind of gear should a kit like this include to get you off of the ground?
Well, here is a short list of what you should look for your first kit for photography
orstudio
lighting to have.
First, one of these lighting kits should come with a backdrop support system. This should be able to
provide you with at least a ten by thirteen foot muslin background for
taking school pictures, portraits, etc. Some kits will even include a couple of backdrops with
it, which is a very good deal.
Two, it should come with carrying cases for everything.
Three, the photography lighting kit should come with several spring-cushioned light stands, and three
lights for these stands. These should be of sufficient wattage that they will get the job done in most
cases, and should also come with bulbs in them.
And finally, the photography kit should come with two soft umbrellas (at least 33 inches big), for
diffusing the light.
If you can get all of this gear in a kit, then that is the kit that is going to get you off the
ground running. Photography light kits come in a lot of different sizes and styles, but a kit with the above gear
included is going to get you busier faster, and for less money.
There are other, more specialized kits out there as well. There are backdrop kits, lighting
kits, umbrella kits, bulb kits...and even kits of different kinds of light stands! But for taking most photos, you
just need the basics....three lights, two diffused with umbrellas, and one on the backdrop.
So, if you feel like this is all that you will need, a photography light kit like the one
described above should suffice nicely! And you can even buy a cheaper brand at first to keep the costs to a
minimum… I mean, you can always upgrade later, or even do it as gear needs replacing (things like bulbs do burn out
from time to time).
